You guys keep telling me you want to come on my trips. You see the pictures, the outfits, the food, whatever completely ridiculous little place I’ve found, and say, “I want to do that with you.”

And honestly? That makes me so happy. I love that you’re excited about the way I travel, and I would genuinely love to experience Japan with you. So I have apparently decided to take you seriously.

Wonderfully Weird Japan is the trip I’m dreaming up for us. Yes, there will be Disney. And Universal. But I’m just as excited about tiny restaurants, colorful shopping streets, traditional neighborhoods, weird little discoveries, and all the things we’ll stumble into that will inevitably become our entire personality for the week.

I want to share the things I love about traveling in Japan, help with the details that can make going feel intimidating, and make this feel fun instead of overwhelming. We’d have experiences together, time to do our own thing, and people to compare purchases and questionable snack choices with afterward.

It’s still an idea, but enough of you said yes that I’m doing the homework to see what it would actually take. I’m really excited that you’re excited, and I want to figure out whether we can make this happen in a way that feels good for everyone.

So tell me a little about what would make this trip work for you.

Here’s what I’m picturing

Spring 2028
Japan in spring is the dream. I’m still looking at the exact dates, but that’s the season I have in mind.

About 11 to 12 days in Japan
The trip would include Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, with a possible overnight stay at an onsen along the way. Travel time getting to and from Japan would be separate.

A small, adults-only group
I’m thinking around 12 to 16 travelers. Bring your person, bring a friend or come on your own. You don’t have to put together an entire group chat and convince everyone to agree on a vacation before you can come.

Three theme parks. Obviously.
Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea and Universal Studios Japan. I was never going to choose just one.

And a whole lot of Japan outside the parks
Harajuku, excellent food, fashion, traditional experiences, a beautiful scenic train ride and plenty of room for the wonderfully weird things we find along the way.

An onsen stay, with tattoos welcome
Because after those park days, a good soak sounds like an excellent life decision. I’m looking into different options, including what might work best for anyone who would prefer a private bath.

Some plans together. Some time to wander.
We might spend one day screaming on rides together and then spend an afternoon following completely different shopping obsessions. Both sound like a successful trip to me.
